Visits to Port Washington, Saukville, and the Covered Bridge Park are added to the basic Virmond-Cedarburg route. This is a moderate effort route with a few more short sections of heavier motor vehicle traffic. Less experienced riders might want to walk their bikes across the Milwaukee River bridge when negotiating Saukville on Hwy 33. Overall, very nice roads and scenery with only a few hills. Virmond Park is a wonderful Ozaukee County asset located on the bluffs of Lake Michigan. Along the way, you pass the entrance to the Lion's Den George Nature Preserve - this would make a great side trip. By all means, spend a little time touring Port Washington Marina. At the end of Mink Ranch road, you will encounter a very nice park on the Milwaukee river - Ehlers Park. Spend a few minutes at Covered Bridge Park for a great rest stop. Virmond Park has excellent restroom facilities. Port Washington, Saukville, Cedarburg and Thiensville all have a wide variety of facilities. After the ride explore the park or visit the coffee shops and restaurants on Port Washington Road which is just a mile or so to the west of the park.
