The ride starts in the Virmond Park and then proceeds north along the lake - this section has only a few very gentle slopes - nearly flat. At Lion's Den Gorge Nature Preserve there is a short hill climb to reach the Interurban Trail. From there, the ride proceeds south with only gentle grades. At Mequon the ride turns east back to Virmond Park - there are a couple of modest hills on this portion of the ride. Overall, this is quite an easy and relaxed ride with a great place for lunch in Cedarburg. Virmond Park is a wonderful Ozaukee County asset located on the bluffs of Lake Michigan. Along the way, you pass the entrance to the Lion's Den Gorge Nature Preserve - this would make a great side trip. Along the Trail, you pass the entrance to Bratt Woods Nature Preserve. Virmond Park has excellent restroom facilities. Port Washington, Saukville, Cedarburg and Thiensville all have a wide variety of facilities. After the ride explore the park or visit the coffee shops and restaurants on Port Washington Road which is just a mile or so to the west of the park.
